Chavous to ST Louis

Postby mysticphysh » Sat Mar 11, 2006 8:51 pm

As Per nfl.com

Former Minnesota safety Corey Chavous reached agreement with St. Louis on a five-year deal.

Pretty good signing for a D that still needs help.

Did I hear somewhere that Archuleta was let go or something like that, or is he still with the team? Thought I heard something in passing...

EDIT: Ahhh..Adam's a FA. Research ;-D

With him and Glover, STL looks to be improving that defense this year. They tried it last year too ... but they're signing some quality people so far.

I've heard they're the early favorites for Will Weatherspoon as well, that could be huge.

Though I think they overpaid for Chavous a bit.

Looking good for Steven Jackson heading into next year. New coach and an improved defense could mean a lot more carries for him.

Just what Haslett loves to do... overpay players that are past their prime, but might still have it in them.

Chavous has been on the decline since his pro bowl year with his running buddy Russell in the backfield.

Linehan is familiar with him from his days in Minny so he must have seen something in him that he liked enough to pay him the money he did.

Very true...I would think that Linehan has the best evaluating analysis of Chavous. That being said, I also think there may be a bit of a bias here, but Chavous does make better a weak STL secondary, there is no doubt about that.

Absolutely...the Rams secondary was extremely porous. Chavous is a decent guy who has to be better than what they have now. They have made some nice moves so far. Maybe they will do what Minnesota tried to do last year. Hopefully they'll have better QB play which they should. It will be interesting to see what they are going to do with Jackson's plays with a new coach. He could be a bargain pick in the 2nd round if they increase his workload and have the lead in games due to good defensive play. ;-D
