I don't think you get how hard it is to trade down. Almost every year teams at the top of the draft say they want to trade down and then fail doing so.

Trades tend to happen way less than expected.

NO wouldn't move until draft day. They would grab Bush if he doesn't go #1. Duece is oft injured, and Bush would fit nicely with NO's offense, sharing carries with Duece and playing a slash position. If Bush is gone, they grab Ferguson.

I bet HOU does take Ferguson unless someone wants to trade for Bush at #1. Ferguson is the smart pick. Bush nor a QB can improve HOU like Ferguson could. And since all the other teams know that, there are probably very few teams willing to trade much to move up to the #1 spot.

That puts TEN in the drivers seat from a trade perspective.

So, I've got it....

HOU Ferguson (or Bush)
NO Bush (or Ferguson)
OAK(t) Leinhart
JETS Mario Williams (pickup Schaub or Ramsey in trade)
GB AJ Hawk
SF Haloto Ngata
TEN Jay Cutler
BUF Vernon Davis
DET Michael Huff
ARI Vince Young (1 year behind Warner on the bench)
STL Jimmy Williams
CLE Santonio Holmes
ATL Ty Hill
MIA Tamba Hali
MIN Lawrence Maroney
DAL Chad Jackson
SD Chad Greenway
KC Ernie Sims
NE LenDale White
...
....

I don't think taking Ferguson #1 is a total waste. If he is as good as projected, he could have an impact like Ogden or Pace. If he is that good, he should be the #1 pick.

Or, the Texans could take Bush, sign him to a deal with a big signing bonus and a small 2006 salary, and then deal him to a team like Indy for a starting OL and LB. :-D

It seems to me that the top of this year's draft has all the talent that was missing from last year. You have a "surefire" QB, RB, OT, and DE that would all have been worthy of a #1 overall pick in other years. Because of that, I don't think you can really fault any team for taking any of those guys high in this draft.

This isn't Madden. If you trade or release a player, their entire bonus gets accelerated onto that year's cap. Can a team really take a $40M+ cap hit? Doubt it.

Oh well, just looking for some way out of this. If the Texans can't trade down, then I guess they'll have to take Bush... or win at least 8 games in 2006/7.

I wonder what DD's annual salary is and if they can trade him to Indy(or someone else) for a starting OL and MLB?
