1. Why doesn't anyone ever get knocked out in a hockey fight?

2. Why don't guys use karate kicks? - Look if you want to kick my butt, I'm just defending myself...any means necessary. You make it known that you throw some round kicks with skates on and no one's fighting you again.

I think that the answer to both of those is "They're on ice, wearing ice skates." It's hard to land good blows when you're off-balance, and falling down typically leads to things like the first picture I posted up there.
The reason you see players holding on to each other all of the time in hockey fights is that they're keeping their balance. How could you even try to throw a roundhouse kick while wearing ice skates?
