So you can download full Cds from other people?
absolutely. that's the main deal. movies and albums. plus there is tons of software that is seeded too. i downloaded 50 rush albums that was presented as a single file. it was 6 gigs or so, and 90% bootleg live shows...so that part wasn't illegal. those are legal to share. but there were some studio albums so that was stealing. i also downloaded the entire discogrophy of the who and dream theater. also i downloaded about 18 cds of rare pink floyd out takes and radio promos. all presented to me as one large file. then once you complete the "file" it turns into many folders of mp3s. really great stuff. much better than limewire or napster. but those programs are excellent if you're just looking for one song.
Your the person i need to talk to about this. Will you be on YM this evening?

Yep, just like the man says it's great for whole albums and especially movies and TV shows, as well as software. You can grab individual TV episodes for current shows like Lost, or entire seasons or even more for shows that have been around a while (a recent popular one is the first 7 seasons of South Park in one giant torrent)...
Of course, I wouldn't know .
i've always found them to be extremely slow myself. course i could be spoiled since i get stuff at about a 200 to 400 kb/second dl from my sources. but trying to get Lost episodes in the past was excruciating.
You probably either A) have a firewall issue or B) are trying to download something without many seeders. Since you're talking about Lost I'm going to guess it's A since there are generally a lot of people seeding Lost episodes (unless you're getting them from an unpopular site), the most common firewall issue is to open up the proper port for BT, which I believe is 6880.
I've always found BT files to be much faster, but there are other advantages to the technology as well, namely:
-greatly reduces the amount of "fake" files (IE a file names "Star Wars Ep. III" actually being some obscure Korean film)
-infinitely reduces the likelihood of getting a virus
-don't have to worry about your source "logging off" like you do with other p2p clients, and you can resume the download at any time and pick up right where you left off
BitTorrent is more of a system than a program. Its kind of like P2P transfering. Its not a program, but there are programs that let you utilize it (ie: Azureus, ABC, BitTornado). Hopefully you knew this
There are many programs that let you use the bittorrent system. My favorite is Azureus.
Now, say you go to http://torrents.to and search some torrent files. You find one you want and download it. Now, people new to this will be like: "What the? I wanted to download Nightmare on Elm Street and it downloaded a 30 kb file!." Well, here's where programs like Azureus come in. What they do is read the file and find the tracker, or host. Once Azureus finds the tracker, your download begins. Now, there are two key parts to making BitTorrent work. Seeders, and leachers. Seeders are people that have already downloaded the file your trying to download, and are nice enough to leave Azureus open so other people can download from them. Leachers are the people downloading off seeders, but they can also download from the other leachers' partially downloaded files. So, if there are no seeders, you cant finish your file. So, whenever you download using BitTorrent, always make sure to keep your torrent downloads open after you've finished downloading, or else the system falls apart and nobody can finish their files.
Also, the more popular a file is, the more leachers and seeders there will be, the faster your download speed will be. I've had speeds get up to 300 kb a second. So if your searching for some Friends episode from 1999, of course your download is going to be going at 0.23 kb a second, because the file is probably not popular.
Anyhow, I hope that helps you....if you bothered to read it.

Azureus is a bittorrent client, but Limewire and Napster are not .
Btw, suprnova's torrent section got killed off almost a year ago.
