Props to you Bravo for quitting! My dad chewed for 20+ years like the rest of his fireman buddies and it was the most disgusting habit ever! Even as a kid I remember packs of Red Man in the glove compartment and the constant spitting and spit cans everywhere...then he switched to Copenhagen and would buy the "logs" at Costco. The habit just got worse and worse.
At one of his dentist visits, his dentist pretty much said he had to quit or he'd lose most of his teeth and he had to get checked for oral cancer. He made the decision to quit cold turkey, which was pretty damn hard for him...and for the rest of us that had to deal with the irritability, but it was worth it!
Like everyone else here has mentioned, sunflower seeds and gum work well. My dad also used these fake dip packets that emulate the feeling of dip in your lip, but they're minty. He said when the cravings were really bad, those helped him the most.
