Ricky Williams loses appeal - Out for 2006

Postby Vanter » Tue Apr 25, 2006 6:24 pm

Article from the Miami Herald:

Dolphins' Williams loses appeal; out for 2006
JASON COLE
4/25/2006

Dolphins running back Ricky Williams lost his appeal of a fourth violation of the NFL substance-abuse policy and will be suspended for one year, a source said told the Miami Herald on Tuesday evening.

Williams was informed by the NFL on Tuesday. He had appealed the violation, which occurred in late December, to the league on April 10. Attorney David Cornwell had expressed hope after the appeal that the league would rule in Williams' favor.

That hope was based on the fact that Williams did not test positive for marijuana, the substance he had tested positive for on three previous occasions. The substance he tested positive for is unknown, but agent Leigh Steinberg has hinted that it was an ''upper'' and a drug not in keeping with Williams' personality.

Williams will now miss the entire 2006 season. He can apply for reinstatement after that.

Neither Williams nor Steinberg were available for comment.

Wow.

My Ronnie Brown pick at 7 overall in the mock isn't looking so crazy any more. He takes a big jump up the rankings.

I would take Ronnie Brown at #7. NFC East got weak real quick.

I think you mean AFC East, lol.

Too bad for Ricky, but he did put this upon himself.

I kinda expected this, so Ronnie Brown stays in that top 8 tier of RBs for me.

I think it depends on whether or not Miami chooses to try and sue for the signing bonus $ he still owes them. Sometimes tells me they might not bother, but who knows.

If Williams doesn't have to pay them back, I'd be surprised if he ever plays again.

I don't think Williams will play again. The next suspension is a hell of a lot longer than a year and I don't think any team will risk having him on board knowing that. What a waste.
