I agree, this move was pretty unexpected especially after all Smith's assurances he was over the play-off loss and would be back for '06.

Agreed. This is an unusally selfish act by a normally classy guy. It seemed he still had some go in the tank, so I didn't see this one coming. I wonder if the draft had some bearing on his choice? Could be he didn't think they improved enough for them to have a chance, and just couldn't see the point in pushing an older body one more year and risking injury for nothing. Regardless, I do think we will see much more of Matt Jones this year. Wilford may be the bigger recipient of the dividends, but Jones seemed to be catching on a bit last year, and should only improve this year.

You never know, he could have informed the front office before the draft. I don't think it would have chaned their draft strategy much, because they already have 3 pretty good WR's.

I agree with this right here. I would take Jones in a dynasty all day long over Wilford. Wilford in a redraft may have a bit more value this year but in coming years it will be Matt Jones.
