Chiefs Release Jerome Woods

Postby Dr. Duran Duran » Fri May 19, 2006 3:38 am

From NFL.com:
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (May 18, 2006) -- The Kansas City Chiefs released 10-year veteran safety Jerome Woods.

A Pro Bowl selection in 2004 after recovering from a severe leg injury, Woods played little last season and his future with the Chiefs seemed shaky after two safeties were taken in last month's draft. His 720 career tackles rank seventh in team history.

Taken as the 28th overall choice in 1996, Woods played in 128 games. He had 15 interceptions, returning two for touchdowns. He had a career-best four interceptions in 1997, when the Chiefs led the NFL in scoring defense with 14.5 points a game.

Kansas City's starting safeties are Sammy Knight and Greg Wesley. The Chiefs drafted Bernard Pollard and Jarrad Page.

As well as in ESPN NFL 2K5. It'd be really be nice if the Chiefs could land Ty Law. I realize he costs a lot, but KC won't be winning anything important without him, and Roaf and Shields won't be around forever. Well, maybe they can keep petitioning for that extra playoff spot.

Wow ... didn't see that coming.

I know Dallas has plenty of safeties on roster (Roy, rookie Pat Watkins ... who I'm riding high on, second-year Beraiult, Willie Pile, Keith Davis) and even a vet safety (Marcus Coleman), but I'd say Woods is worth a long look.
