How Many Playoff Teams Should There Be?

Postby LooseCannon » Wed Jun 07, 2006 7:46 pm

In a 12-team H2H league how many teams make the playoffs for you? My league wants to do 6, but I think that four is the apporopriate number. Football has too much luck involved to have three weeks of playoffs, the best team is almost certain to have a decreased chance in winning.

My league does top 8 out of 14. In a 12 teamer, I like four. The other option is to do 6 and allow the top two teams to have a bye week.

In a 12 teamer 4 and 6 are both acceptable. Anything else is pushing it.

I like to do 6 with a bye week. Keeps playoff dreams alive until the very last week for that 6th spot.

4 should be the amount. Unless it is a 14 teamer, in which case I say 6 should be right. I don't like it when half the teams make the playoffs, that's the problem with the nba and nhl.

Definitely four or six...I guess it depends on how many weeks you want to use for playoffs and which weeks you want to use.

I think you are right LooseCannon...I like doing the playoffs with just four. It actually gives the teams who did well during the entire year a better chance to win. If you are in the top four of a 12 team league, you probably had to win 10 games to make the playoffs. Your best teams will be in that group no matter how much luck they had in winning a few games here and there.

Sure, the NFL has 6 in each conference, but they also have 15 teams. If it were a 14 team league, 6 is good...but I like four for a 12 teamer. ;-D

I agree, and it gives more of reward for doing really well in the regular season.
