TRENTON, Ohio - A teacher in southwest Ohio has been fired for reading students' nasty comments about classmates out loud.

Kevin Johnson had taught at Edgewood High School in Butler County for 15 years. Assistant schools superintendent Larry Knapp says the Edgewood district let him go last week after receiving complaints about the incident. Knapp says some of the essays were embarrassing or hurtful.

Johnson had asked students to write about what classmates might be doing 20 years from now. He wouldn't comment about his dismissal when contacted at home by The (Cincinnati) Enquirer newspaper.

But he planned to meet today with a lawyer to talk about a possible appeal.

What would possess a teacher to do this? Why would you make your students feel bad in class? Just because some of them wrote some bad things about each other, that doesn't mean you have to read them out loud.

I'm glad my erstwhile family member set him straight. ;-D

No, this isn't me or anyone I'm directly related to. :-D

Knapps are as common as dandelions, really. We sprout up everywhere.

Check out the Knapp section of the phone book of any mid-major sized town in the Midwest. It'll be pages long. :-]

There's only 8 knapps in the St. Cloud, MN area out of 60,000 people.

This is dumb... a teacher get's fired over this??? I've had HS teachers make us stand up on the Cafeteria tables and sing if we were caught cutting class... I bet he would get fired in this day and age for that.

If there was s.xual explict material... I'll agree... everything else warrants nothing more than a suspension.

If he was a problem teacher, maybe this was just an excuse to RIF him and deny tenure.

Being a teacher is such a tough profession with these wacko parents complaining/suing over everything. Try to be cool, funny, and connect with you students... fired. The only teachers that will survive are the ones who don't give a darn.
