Can you download your DVD's onto it?

Yes and No.
It will play most .avi files, including those encoded using DIVX or XVID codecs. It will involve a few steps and a lot longer than you might think, but yes, you can take a movie that you own on DVD and get it onto your iPod. But it's not going to be drag-and-drop.

Basically, these are the steps involved:

1) copy raw dvd data to comp HDD
2) decode video and audio seperately
3) choose the portion you want to keep (usually from beginning of feature to end credits - leaving out the menus and special features)
4) encode using a divx or xvid codec (this is the long part and usually takes about 2x the time it would take to actually sit down and watch the movie)
5) import into iTunes under 'videos.' If it plays from iTunes, then it'll play on the iPod, as the iPod basically uses the same QuickTime player that iTunes does.
6) copy to iPod.

All in all, it may be more trouble than it's worth.

Now if you already have a lot of divx .avi files on your computer, you can go straight to step 5.

I think they are sweet two of my friends have them. And they have Wedding Crashers, Half Baked, Tommy Boy and some others I can't remember. During school we would watch them in class.

I copy DVDs onto it all the time.

You can even copy individual episodes of shows..like Arrested Development.

I use Nero Recode 2 to do the conversion.

i have an ipod video..but the process of converting movies was a little more hassle than whats its worth IMO. i mean, if you really wanna watch movies on it, im sure it wont be so bad for you, but im not into sitting through all the compression time for a movie that i might not even ever watch. i used the prog "imTOO dvd to ipod converter" maybe it was just the prog, but it was very confusing and didnt always work. maybe i should try nero like BH..im pretty familiar with that one

id have to say tho...the quality on the movies i did rip (gladiator and troy) had excellent quality, but if you convert them into widescreen it seems to make them pretty hard to see IMO.

How do you get it to open 'copyrighted' discs? (I think that's how you say it)

I use Nero (have ultra 7 with recode in it) to burn all sorts of media, but I can't get Recode to open a storebought DVD. Eh?

I have one and I am still figuring out how to do everything with it..I've had it about 2 months now..Just really messed with the music and photos so far.

Right now, I can't even figure out if you can shuffle songs within a genre, so I think ya'll are a bit more advanced than me so far...

But my music collection on there will rival anyones..

Just go to settings, and keep clicking on shuffle untill it says shuffle songs
