I went to Vegas the week before Memorial Day with some old friends from college, and my fiance and her friend were coming to join us for the weekend. I was having a great time with my friends, but was also looking forward to doing some stuff with my fiance. Well, once she got there, I didn't even get to see much of her. I explained it away as circumstance (I was too tired the first night she was there since we had gone out hardcore the night before, she wasn't into doing some of the same stuff as me, she had to keep her friend entertained, etc.).
So the last night me and my friends went to see a show that she wasn't interested in, and I had plans to meet up with her and her friend afterwards. After the show, I ended up calling multiple times and receiving no answer. Then I went to where I thought they would be and searched for awhile. I finally got tired and went back to the hotel room - a little pissed that I hadn't seen her all week. After sitting in the hotel room for about an hour, I started to get worried that something had happened, since it was very late, and it was two young, possibly drunk, girls alone. So I get back up, get dressed, and decide to go out and look until I find them. Now, anyone who has been to Vegas knows that it is damn near impossible to find anything or anyone if you don't know exactly where to look. I had it narrowed down to two places - Caesar's Palace or the Bellagio (unfortunately two of the biggest casinos on the strip).
So anyway, after much running around, I managed to find her in the Bellagio, with another guy's arm around her. I immediately pull her aside to talk to her - with the attitude of a parent who had lost a child in the supermarket - angry more because she had scared me than anything. I was more pissed that they didn't return my phone calls or let me know where they were than I was about the guy - I trust her completely when it comes to loyalty - she has no grey area when it comes to cheating or lying. Anyway, when I talked to her, she was acting funny, saying that she didn't "want to have this argument here", and she wouldn't tell me where her friend was so we could go. So I got pissed and walked away, but then turned around to watch from a distance and see what she did next. Well they sat there talking to those guys, so I went over and introduced myself to the guys.
After that, she pulled me aside to have the argument....where she told me she couldn't marry me. All she could tell me was that she loved me but she wasn't in love with me. There was nothing I could say or do to change her mind - no discussion necessary - she quit the relationship.
So I immediately ran back to the hotel, packed up, and went to the airport and took the first plane out of town.
Now here's the kicker - I have been in Houston since Katrina drove me from New Orleans. We had plans to buy a house this fall and settle down together, so I got a new job with the help of a corporate recruiter. A job that had no travel (I used to spend about half the year out of town), good benefits, and less hours. Because I used a corporate recruiter, the company I hired on with put a clause in the contract that I have to pay a pro-rated portion of the recruiter's fee if I left within a year of starting (I started in April, and the amount to pay if I quit right now would be around $13,000, which I don't have and can't get). So now I live in Houston, while my closest friends live 6 hours away (New Orleans), and my closest family lives 9-10 hours away (Alabama).
As the 'Cuna might say, Life SuXX0rZ DuXX0rZ
Thanks for listening, guys
