nah. tom petty has made quality music for his entire career. metallica had about 4 good albums. i hate lars. he should shut his mouth.

Petty is very worthy of receiving votes here - there aren't such huge differences between Metallica and Tom Petty that Petty doesn't belong in this matchup. Both have made really good music, and I could almost put up a better argument for TP & the HB than I can for Metallica. I listen to Metallica more, so I voted for them, though. ;-)

Metallica is one of the bands I look up to being a metal fan. They took metal to a whole other level.

EDIT: Lars did get annoying after a while though.

Not a Metal person but i dig sandman.

Tom Petty has made great music over many decades, i really believe he deserves this.

Metallica hasn't put out anything good for 17 years now, but the strength of their 1st 4 albums still gives them my vote. :-P
