Willis McGahee - thoughts?

Postby Stelly » Wed Jul 05, 2006 1:54 pm

So, word out of Buffalo is McGahee has shed about 10 pounds, and appears quicker than he was last year.

What are your thoughts on McGahee this year? I wouldn't want him as my RB1, but is he a good RB2?

It depends on whether J.P. Losman can get his act together and keep defenses from stacking eight or nine in the box like they did frequently last year.

I agree - Willis' success will really depend on how well Losman has developed over the offseason. He was horrible last year and Willis seemed to be more successful with Holcomb. I certainly would not take him as my #1 guy and IMO he's a risky #2 but would be a solid #3.

Who knows??
Yes, he has shed 10-15 pounds and supposedly is faster and quicker. He said he is hoping he doesn't have to run guys over as much this year and that he should be able to run by him.
With an o-line and a qb that nobody has any idea if they can or will be any good, it is too hard to even give a guess on how good he is going to do this year.
Just a thought from a bills fan.

I'd be okay with selecting him as my #2 back this year. I hoping Losman gets his act together sooner than later

Defense will be better, but not like the 2004 team. QB will be better but still way below adequate. Given how much of the offense goes through him, he is definitely a solid #2 RB unless there's an injury. The better defense keeps him in the gameplan a little more, which should mean he breaks 1400 yds. 8 or 9 TDs isn't unreasonable as well, even in a bad offense.

His outright terrible offense (no key draft acquisitions, loss of #1 WR, loss of a starting Tackle, and coaches still toying with Losman instead of trying to develop him properly) keeps him from being a #1. But his talent, and the simple lack of ability to pass currently in that offense should help him generate enough to be a solid #2.
