Im in a 16 team league as well, and I seem to like the 8 spot a lot. You can get a very solid RB as in Edge or Rudi and then with your second pick you have a lot of great options. WRs such as Fitz and Boldin will probably be there, maybe Gates as well. Id definately grab a RB to build your team around first, then probably shoot for a top WR. A Rudi/Fitz combo would be VERY solid for your first two picks. It gets too hard to predict after the second round, but id suggest at least one RB in rounds 3-4.
In larger leagues like this I usually try to stay away from TE and QB until the middle rounds, since these positions present little relative value after the first tier. Also dont take to many risks early on. The talent is spread thin enough already, and although you cant win a league in the first four rounds of your draft, you certainly can lose it.
Basically my advice is to pick solid, established players early, take a few calculated risks after you have the base of your team locked up, and be sure to handcuff your 1st round rb.
Go rb #1, then go best player avaible. w/ a big league like that; everyteam will be weak some where.
I played in an 18 team league last year, heres how I picked
J Lewis(7) Walker(30) Dunn(43)
Branch(66)
M Robison(79)
T Jones(102) Pitt D(138) very important in bigger leagues
and bla, bla, bla, Cooley
I won that league amazingly when I traded away Lewis for Fitzy. Don't know if that helped so good luck. My point is never give up; even after your #1 & #2 picks go down the drain.
beats me, everyone sure has an opinion though. let me offer this. No gates in round two. There are Heath Millers and LJ Smiths out there who are servicable. But to find a starting RB who's not splitting carries or a stud WR is much, much harder. Wait on QB till later rounds unless Cpalm is available in the fourth. I think he's a bargain there.
