Bonus points for yardage?

Postby socceryank » Sat Jul 22, 2006 8:48 am

I am the Commish for a competitive league, and we have not used the bonus option for yardage (ie - "X" points for 350 yds passing; "x" yards for 150 yards receiving). What do you guys prefer, and what scoring system do you use?

The league I am in uses bonus scoring, I don't like it! This is why:

Player A gets 349 yds, 4TDs.
Player B gets 350 yds, 4TDs.

Player A gets the 5 bonus points because he got one more yard that Player B? Nah!

Lol, that's pretty unlikely. But, I don't like it either.

I prefer performance based scoring (yardage league) Heck, if a guy gets 175 yards receiving, but no TD's, there should be something that the owner gets for his perormance.

We use a 3 point bonus for the milestones in my league (100 rush/rec and 300 pass yds.) It works out well. We also use a bonus for long (50+ yds.) TD's. It really can mean the difference, but it's something that everyone in our league knows about and enjoys. There is nothing better than seeing a 75 yard TD run that guarantees your RB gets the long TD bonus and all but assures he gets the 100+ yd bonus also.

That is a great feeling! It also make the home run threat RBs a lot more valuable.

In my league we award points for yardage with a bonus for long scores.

10 yards rush/receive= 1 point (100 yard rush/receive day=10 points)
30 yards pass=1 point (300 yard pass day=10 points)

touchdowns over 40 yards=2 bonus points

This ratio evens quarterbacks with running backs and rewards good yardage producers who may not score many touchdowns. The bonus for long scores gives their fantasy team the same boost their NFL counterpart receives during their game. (Kind of like the momentum shift after a long touchdown.)

In our keeper league we have some tough scoring that favors long TD's

Td's are scored from 0-9yds=6pts, 10-29yds=8pts, 30-49yds=10pts and over 50yds=12

We never have had the same winner of the league yet in 5 years. It can make for some interesting scores ;-D
