Setting up keeper leagues

We currently have a 5 year old redraft league, and a select few of us were considering starting a keeper league. Can you guys help me out with the following:

1. What would be the lowest number of teams you would want in the league that would keep it fair and interesting?

2. What are the rules that you prefer in regards to the number of protected players on each team, setting the draft order each year, how to draft if a team owner must be replaced, etc.

As you can tell, I'm not very familiar with keeper league protocol, and can use all the help you can spare!

8 is minimum, i dont play in leagues with less than 10, but mostly 12.

And 2 Keepers is standard, it really depends what you want. Person with last place gets first pick the next draft.
