Actually, I found this "writing on the wall":

http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/features ... ateChanged

"Titans coach Jeff Fisher said Billy Volek is his starter heading into the season. The Titans drafted Vince Young and agreed to contract terms with him Thursday."

So, to be honest, I can't answer your 2 questions, but I don't work for the Titans, either.

Next, with Tennessee's defense likely to be one of the poorest in the NFL again this year, I wouldn't be surprised if they were forced into quite a few shootouts, regardless of their offensive philosophy.

As far as the Mason-Volek connection in 2004, in the 5 games Volek started, Mason had 26Rec 335Yds 2TD, which plays out to
83Rec 1072Yd 6TD over a full season. These were below his actual stats that year. Volek actually connected well with Bennett in 04, who seems to be healthy and ready to go this year.

I guess the only way to tell what's going to happen is to wait and see. I for one (along with most of the others that contributed to this post) wouldn't be surprised in the least to see Volek start the season and put up reasonably good numbers...

I like everybody's point, and I still stick by mine. Adding though, that it wouldn't be a huge surprise to see Collins sign with the Titans to take up the #2 QB position. Older QB's do that sometimes. He could still influence Young, and it gives Tennessee an experienced backup to have, so that they don't end up getting hung out to dry with a rookie. I will admit I've probably talked myself into the excitement that Volek will come out as a big surprise for this season. But I still believe it too. ;-D And can't wait to see.

This is the actual blurb from which you are quoting:

Titans contact Collins
<Jul. 28> Collins is scheduled to visit Nashville today and undergo a physical for the Titans, the Tennessean reports. Agent David Dunn, who represents Collins, did not confirm the visit but did say he has had discussions with Titans General Manager Floyd Reese.

"Obviously he is a guy out there that people are pursuing, but right now he is keeping his options open," Dunn said. "Tennessee would obviously be an attractive place, but that is a decision the two parties are going to have to make."

Titans coach Jeff Fisher said Billy Volek is his starter heading into the season. The Titans drafted Vince Young and agreed to contract terms with him Thursday.

All this sentence is doing is referencing Fisher saying that Volek was the start heading into the season...I'm sure he's said that alot over the pas couple of months since it's Volek, Young, and Mauck on the roster. Brining up this line referencing old quotes about the QB position pre-Collins doesn't seem all that relevant.
