Smiths hamstring hurt his Value?

Postby whodey#9 » Tue Aug 01, 2006 1:54 am

With Smith having hamstring problems does he drop out of the top 2 in WRs? (I have Chad and Steve as my top 2)

It doesnt drop him at all in my top WRs. It does however, cause me to rethink drafting him at all. I know for a fact that he will be taken as the #1 WR in most of my leagues, and I dont want to be the one to take him that early with a hammy injury. I'm staying away from him and drafting someone safer a few spots later in the draft, though I still rank him at the top of my list.

It certainly does seem that these hamstring injuries seem to linger almost the entire season... BUT, I think part of that is that there is never any real time to let something that you "can play with" heal to %100 during the season.

One might think/hope that this early in training camp that they would take a real conservative approach, and just make sure he's ready for week 1. now would _I_ take him in the first round if I was drafting today? not likely. As mentioned in http://www.fantasyfootballcafe.com/foru ... p?t=235660

speed wr's and hamstring injuries don't give you warm fuzzies.

Too early to tell......he had the same problem in training camp a few years ago, and had a great season, so don't write him off yet!

He has dropped in my WR rankings far enough for me not to be the one to draft him. I can tell that he will go mid 2nd in my main money leauge this year based alot on last year. With my mid 2nd round pick I am going to take TO or CJ instead.

...or Im overestimating my leauge's tendancy to jump on hyped players.

Probably before Steve burst onto the scene in 2003.

He falls below TO, CJ, & Holt. About par with Fitz. Above Boldin, Harrison, Chambers, Moss.

So, I'll probably not be drafting him (as he goes #1 off the boards in the 9-12 pick area).

I'm going to have to monitor this very closely. In my 10-teamer, I can keep Smith with my third pick (3.8), or TO with my second (2.3).

I was dead set on keeping Smith at 3.8, but depending on the severity of the injury, I might re-consider.

Most people who are serious into FF knew who Smith was before 03. He did have a pretty good 02 season and was killer running back kicks in 01.

I just dont remember him having hammy problems before this.
