Any thoughts on Leon Washington

Postby J_rob_the_ Baller » Wed Aug 02, 2006 8:52 am

Whats the outlook for leon washington?

I am thinking about taking him in my dynasty, just curious what people think of this guy. Does he have what it takes to start at some point? With Martin old and overworked, and not likely to finish the season (if he starts it), whoever gets the starting job in NY should be a good pickup in a dynasty, just want to see what everyone thinks of that situation.

I personally like Leon Washington (and Lorenzo Booker) as a prospect. He has good speed and is a shifty runner who has good power and breaks a fair amount of tackles. He is also a pretty solid receiving back out of the backfield. I wasn't particularly impressed with him last year but I liked him as an underclassman.

I would say he is on par with Cedric Houston, although they both have durability issues.

That offensive line in NY sucks though, so I wouldn't bank on either of them doing a whole lot this year.

Plus, if NYJ has a shot at Adrian Peterson next year I don't see how they pass on him.

I agree with Cheese about his ability as a runner and receiver. Sadly, he didn't do very much last year to help himself gain ground for this year's NFL Draft, running the ball less than 100 times last season. But he did manage to improve his pass-catching skills, hauling in 19 passes for 255 yards. I think, mostly becuase of size and durability, he's a better fit for special teams, maybe an ocassionally used scatback. However, I wouldn't view him as anything worthy of dynasty pick. I liken him a bit for Alvin Pearman of the Jacksonville Jaguars.

I don't see him being more than a 3rd down specialist and kick returner. But it's true tha tthe Jets' backfield is crowded (after C-Mart) by ordinary... so he could end up seeing plenty of time.

But I don't have much hope.

I agree 100% with this. He probably will never be more than a backup (in the NFL).

I give him just as much chance as any backup in NYJ to start if C-Mart goes down. That being said, I expect the draft or free agency to negate all of their values the offseason after that happens.

As an underclassman I thought Leon was going to be a solid player but he didn't do much to impress last year. I agree with several of the posters here who think he's a 3rd down back or kick returner. I wouldn't be looking at him in a dynasty league.
