Free Leagues - Yahoo vs. ESPN vs. Fox Sports

Postby Armchair Quarterback » Thu Aug 03, 2006 4:48 pm

Well, it's that time of the year again; some buddies and I are gearing up to start another fantasy football season. The only question we have is which fantasy site to use...

Generally we've used Yahoo, probably for the past 8 years or so. I've got some doubts this season, however, based on some problems I've had with StatTracker during the current baseball season. As such, I'm open to other possibilities. ESPN and Fox Sports are several that we're considering (in addition to Yahoo), although we're open to other suggestions, as well.

So, basically, I'm looking for Cafe member opinions on the various free fantasy football sites available to host a private league. Which way is the best to go, and what are pros and cons of each?

Thanks!

If anyone votes for FoxSports, please explain yourself. It's terrible.

I use Yahoo! for my leagues, it works just fine and I actually like the upgrades they have done over the years.

well, I just submitted an article on this exact topic...look for it to be published soon (hopefully). Don't forget AOL-easily the most customizable.

Yahoo-easy to manage lots of leagues, good layout, dependable but the most basic scoring/lineups of all of them
AOL-most customizable, fits all scoring/lineup systems, free live scoring
ESPN-it's fine, a few more options than yahoo
Foxsports-failed miserably last year. It's good in theory though, plus free live scoring and more scoring options than yahoo.
ADMIN edit: please note that the overall sig limit is 12k - thanks!

yahoo! has always been good to me. ESPN last year couldn't handle the load that they were trying to bear...so i would do a scout league there this year and see how they handle it before moving my money league there.

There's been a couple threads here and it's been almost unanimous that everyone hates Fox. It was terrible last year - they had a litany of problems that they didn't seem to have a clue how to fix - they really have no business being involved in fantasy sports as they don't have the slightest clue what they are doing!
