Vikings O-line a work in progress

Postby stomperrob » Thu Aug 03, 2006 5:57 pm

Sounds like they still have a ways to go. They should have the talent this year, but they haven't played together as a unit and O-lines often take a while to gel. I'm wondering if this might hurt Taylor's numbers for the first month or so of the season???

What is it, like the 5th day of camp and none of the guys have played beside each other?

I'll reserve my judgments until the 3rd and 4th pre-season games when the first team will get significant playing time against 2 good defenses in Baltimore and Dallas.

I wouldn't read too much into this. It's just a matter of time, before the gelling starts. Taylor is going to have a very productive season. jmo

It's a little too early to read too much into anything. Like Az said, if they're still struggling in the third preseason game it may be time to be concerned, but not just yet.

I wonder if they gave much thought to a boat cruise to help the fellas get to know eachother? :-b

You also have to add that Taylor is new to the system/team too. I would look for the Vikes to run a lot of simple stuff in exhibition and early season to make it easier for players to perform. Then once they get accustomed to eachother they can add more complex blocking schemes. These guys are vets and they're good, so it won't take them long to meld into a solid unit. dangit

These things take time. No one expected them to be top 10 this year anyway. They were horrible last year. Big time offseason acquisitions will help in long term though.

I can see them solidifying by October. They just have to keep Johnson alive till then. ;-)

Gotta keep the starters healthy and hope some of the younger guys can step up their game this season, that would make our o-line extremely solid.
