ALLEN PARK, Mich. (Aug. 4, 2006) -- Detroit Lions president Matt Millen has been appointed to the NFL's competition committee.
Millen will fill the seat vacated when Charley Casserly resigned as general manager of the Houston Texans earlier this year, NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue announced.
"Matt will bring a very valuable perspective to the committee both as a former player and as a senior club executive," Tagliabue said.
Other members of the committee include Atlanta GM Rich McKay, Tennessee coach Jeff Fisher, Cincinnati coach Marvin Lewis, New York Giants co-owner John Mara, Baltimore GM Ozzie Newsome, Indianapolis president Bill Polian and Carolina president Mark Richardson.
Great Idea. His Input should be invaluable.

Millen should stick to one thing. I dont think his mind is vast enough to do two separate things at one time. Try putting a competitive team out on the field first Millen then you can branch off.

At first glance one can only shake one's head and wonder what the NFL is thinking about. But once you consider that he is to replace the GM of the only team that has come close to Matt's putrid record, Charlie Casserly.
So it becomes obvious to me that Millen's selection to this committee is not a function of the NFL, but of NFL Charities. "Let's help the slow kid feel like he fits in."
While I applaud the body of work that NFL Charities has compiled, I fear they may have bitten off more than they can chew.
I think, therefore I am. I think fantasy, therefore I am unreal?
