OK – I’m not going to get too long-winded. For once.
First I’d like to say thank you to everyone here for making this place so cool I just can’t stay away. Special thanks to Menyak, the now-departed (and missed) Arlo, and to Madison. Thanks for keeping the bugs away, for choosing good, solid Mods and for generally being cool dudes.
Here’s my soapbox speech: Don’t judge me by my post count.
I have been against post counts for a long time now. While they’re a good way to see whether someone has been active in the forums, they’re a terrible way to gauge the “quality” of a poster. I have gotten good advice and had good conversations with tons of guys with less than 200 posts, and I have routinely seen guys with 2,000 posts replying to threads with “lol” or just a smiley.
If I could point fingers at a person who I think is a good, solid guy here but who, for his “joined date” has relatively few posts, it’d be Vikes Rule 88. The guy has been here since July, 2003 and has yet to hit 1,000 posts. He doesn’t spam – no “lol” posts – he just tells it like he sees it honestly and without any thought of his post total. On the other end of the same spectrum we have Swiper, who recently celebrated his 13,000th post. Again, Swiper is a great and solid guy here, “the glue that holds the Café together” as someone said in his congratulations thread. Swiper posts a ton more than Vikes, but both are valuable to the Café.
Give me a forum filled with Vikes Rules and Swipers, regardless of post totals, and I’d stay there forever.
So that’s it. That’s my long-winded Hall of Fame speech. Just don’t look at how often a guy posts when you judge them. Look at what they say, what they contribute and judge them by that.
How 'bout them Huskers!
