I am playing in a new league this year that has a setup that is a little different than I am used to, namely starting an extra QB and extra WR each week... the draft is in a week and I was trying to decide if the setup warrants a change in draft strategy (maybe reach for QB and WR earlier than I usually would ) versus sticking with the "RB wins you championships" moto... What do y'all think? Do you grab a QB or WR earlier?
Not sure if I'd reach for another WR earliear, but I'd definetly consider a first AND second QB much earlier than otherwise. Not sure if I have a good feel for the drafting of it though.
as always, it's important to be flexible, but maybe an order of:
rb, qb, rb, wr, qb, rb/wr, wr, wr, wr, te.
I'm assuming 10 or 12 team league here. An 8 team league you may want to wait a bit longer for the qb's. (16th qb is quite different from 24th qb.)
I think that the scoring system favors qb's a bit - it's favoring td's a bit over yardage (esp passing td's), so there's another reason to take a qb..
w/ 6 pts for a passing TD, I would say a stud QB is worth an early rd pick. Last year, my league did 6 pts for a passing TD and I was the last to take a QB (out of 12 teams) and I took Palmer. I dominated that league, Palmer put up 450 FF pts. Whereas, SA put up 320 pts and S.Smith put up 280 pts. Stud QB yes.
I am new to fantasy football so take what I say knowing that it comes from a rookie.
To me it appears like WR might be the most valueable position. In my league for rushing I get a point for every 10 yards and a recieving point for every 15 yards and a passing point for every 25 yards. So your league values a recieving yard just as important as a rushing yard but my league it takes 1.5 recieving yards to equal one rushing yard. The passing to rushing ratio is consistant in 2.5 passing yards equal one rushing yard. I would go after some top flight recievers earlier than normal.
I would go for a top QB earlier than I would take a QB normally. I just drafted in one of those leagues last week and RB's were around a little later than normal becuase everyone was taking QB's early.
You could think of government workers like teenagers. You pay them an allowance, but do you get any work out them? They eat the food, put their feet on the furniture and complain loudly whenever they are unhappy.
Generally, I think that a running back should still be the 1st round pick, but still take a QB earlier then usual, because waiting and taking 2 late can come back to haunt you.

Yes, you still want to get a stud RB, but you should follow up with a couple good QBs soon thereafter. Try to get one of the top WRs if you can, but once you have your #1 WR, ignore them for awhile to make sure you have 2-3 good RBs and 2-3 good QBs. The difference between the 20th best WR and the 50th best WR is not very big.
QB and RB hold the most value here. QB is most due to the fact that you get a full 6 for TDs. RB has next most value because you have to start 2, and theres only so many good ones to go around. Yes, WR, requires the most positions, but you can get 4 servicable ones, with at least one of them being fairly highly ranked. Getting value is the key. Heres what I would do:
If you can get Peyton Manning (which probably means first pick) then: QB, RB, QB/RB depending on whose available, QB/RB whichever you didnt take with the 3rd pick, then WR
After Peyton is gone: RB, QB, QB/RB depending on whose available, QB/RB whichever you didnt take with the 3rd pick, then WR
If by chance, everyone else goes WR crazy while youre picking QB and RB, if you have all the quality QBs and RBs, then you have prime trade bait.
I ran your scoring and roster requirements through my VBD formula, and according to my calculations, this is your VBD chart... Some of the projections here are slightly dated (a month old), like Stallworth, Branch, Edwards, and a couple others... But, in general, this is a pretty good list, and you can take the new developments into account for yourself... Anyways, I hope it helps:
