Browns cornerback Gary Baxter will be out 3-4 weeks with a strained left pectoral muscle, Browns general manager Phil Savage said today.
According to that timetable, Baxter will miss the final three preseason games, but could get back in time for the Sept. 10 opener against New Orleans.
Baxter missed the final 10 games of last season with a torn right pectoral muscle. Savage said the current injury is nowhere near as severe. “Last year, he couldn’t move his arm. Thursday night, he could.”
He said he feels bad for Baxter because he was having such a great preseason “and he really wants to be an elite player for this team.”
Center Rob Smith suffered a high ankle sprain in the loss to the Eagles. His status is to be determined.
