Advice for an Inaugural Dynasty League Draft

Postby titans_cafe » Mon Aug 14, 2006 8:16 pm

Firstly, I apologize if this is the wrong the forum, but I'm not looking for advice on any particular player.

I've joined a new Dynasty league and we're having our initial draft in a few weeks. I'm also in hockey and baseball dynasty leagues and for those I had a list of players that I would take a round (or 2 or 3 or more) earlier than in a redraft league since you can basically own a player forever.

I'm curious what players the Cafe thinks are worth taking early in an inaugural dynasty league draft.

Thanks in advance!

Uhm.. look for Maroney and DeAngelo Williams in the 3rd round. I've got high hopes for Maroney.

yea, the rookie runnign backs take big jumps in value. bush goes in the first round almost every time, and mauroney and williams go in the 3rd or 4th round.

Draft a kicker first. They go fast.

Don't worry about running backs, you can always trade for one later...

In an initial dynasty draft I do two things:

1) Forget about bye weeks
2) Always think long term, winning this particular year isn't as important as building a solid long-term foundation.

I'm fine drafting Braylon Edwards before I fill out my starting WRs, or taking guys like Norwood who won't factor in this year much, but are poised to take over starting gigs next year. Look for the youngest player in each tier when you draft, and make sure if you take a vet with only 1-2 years of quality play left that he's heads and shoulders above all the other guys you could take.

If you're looking for guys in particular who go higher, despite what some here will likely argue within seconds of me posting this Reggie Bush's ADP is in the first half o the first round in inaugural dynasty drafts.

Bush is definitely one of the young RBs that I will target if given a decent draft pick.

Anyone else?

i would almost do the opposite of maddog. its important to look to the future, but you cant forget that you should be trying to win this year too. there are so many changes and unexpected happenings that occur year to year that its my opinion that when you are drafting a team you should be looking to win this year. my example are the jones RB. if you had started a dynasty league last year, both of these young guys would have probably been 1st round, maybe 2nd round picks. one year later and they might not be starting by week 7. while its important to get good young talent, dont forget to play for this year as well, especially before the season has even begun.

I forgot to ask in the original post if anyone is aware of some dynasty/keeper rankings that may be available. I can't seem to find any.
