I'm the commish and our league is a one keeper league. We can keep a player but we give up our draft spot 2 rounds higher than where that player was drafted in 2005. One team is keeping Jordan, who was picked in the 4th round last year, so Jordan automatically becomes his 2d round pick in this year's draft. The Jordan guy has the 10th pick in this year's draft. He wants to trade his 2d round spot (11th pick overall) to the guy with the first pick, for that guy's first pick in the third round. In other words, after the trade, the Jordan team will have picks 10, 20 (Jordan's spot) and 21. He's not giving up anything in the 2d round because he HAS to choose Jordan there, but he vastly improves his 3d round pick from 30 to 20. The other guy moves from the 20th pick to the 11th, but gives up his 21st pick in exchange for the 30th. Is this a vetoable trade?
If he has to give up his second rounder to keep jordan, how can he trade it?
In that situation, i would see it as a pick that he doesnt have available to trade. I would think that tradeing the pick you are suppoesed to be giving up for jordan would not be allowed
That's really what I'm getting at, but he's not really "giving up" his 2d round pick. Rather, he automatically gets Jordan as his 2d round pick. I don;t think the trade should be allowed because it doesn't matter where his draft spot is in the 2d round, he will get Jordan.
I would say these guys are clearly abusing the system. Basically, the Jordan team is moving down in the 2nd round 9 spots because he doesn't care where his 2nd round pick falls, he will still get Jordan. The other guy gets a great deal because he moves up 9 spots in the 2nd round!
You should have a rule forbidding trading of that forced keeper pick, but if not I think you should veto this trade and get that rule put in ASAP.
