Someone dropped out....Draft order???

Postby upslogger19 » Tue Aug 15, 2006 9:28 am

Ok, I am the commish in a 10 team redraft league. So we set our draft order randomly and the guy that got the first pick had to drop out of the league. Now we have someone to replace him but here is my question.

Where should the new guy draft? I see three options.

1) Redo draft order. Pisses off 2-3 guys

2) New guy takes first spot. Pisses off 9 guys.

3) Everyone moves up a spot, new guy gets last pick. Might piss off 2-3 guys since the guy with 9 or 10 might have wanted that pick.

I can't really put it up for vote because I am sure the vote would be in favor of redoing the order since everyone would want another shot at a top 3 pick. But IMO this isnt really fair to the guys with the #2 and 3 picks right now. How should I handle this?

Keep the draft order the same and let the new guy go first. Here's the deal... they already had their draft positions anyway, so the change in player drafting at #1 should not disturb them. If it does, you might want to find some new owners.

Nothing really changes if you put the new guy at #1.

Agreed 100%.

...and it will make finding a new owner that much easier... ;-D

Another idea I had was to keep everyone the same, and then have the new guy get a random number from 1-10 and that should be his draft position. So if he got a 6, 2-6 would move up to 1-5 and 7-10 would stay the same, etc.

I just dont think the other owners like the idea of a "reserve" owner getting the first pick. This is a money league and sometimes people can get pretty worked up...

I was going to vote for redrawing draft order. It seems like the only fair way.

However, getting a 10th person to join would be really easy if you gave him the 1st pick!

Well we already know who the 10th person is. We had two "reserves" that wanted to play but the league filled up.

If they are that picky, you should just disband the league. You are the commish, step up and make the decision that seems fairest to you. Some people are going to get screwed, and some people aren't but it's not like the guy wins $50 bucks for getting the first pick overall. He still has to draft and set lineups and add/drop players just like everybody else. You can't please everybody.
