TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Wide receiver Brandon Stokley could miss the Indianapolis Colts' regular season opener against the New York Giants on Sept. 10 according to a report in the Indianapolis Star.
Stokley, the team's third receiver, sprained his left ankle during a Sunday night practice and his status is still unclear.
"There is a chance [Stokley might miss the game]," Colts coach Tony Dungy told the Star after Tuesday morning's practice. "[With] ankle sprains, you never know. We'll take it day-to-day and see what happens."
Stokley had an MRI on the ankle but no details were made available.
"He's definitely going to be out this week," Dungy told the Star, "but from there it's still to be determined. It does not look like it's going to be long-term in terms of a long ways into the regular season."
An eight-year veteran of the NFL, Stokley played the first four years of his career in Baltimore before relocating to Indianapolis for the 2003 season. He had his best year in 2004 with the Colts when he caught 68 passes for 1077 yards and 10 touchdowns.
