Browns a sleeper D?

Postby cornbreadly » Tue Aug 22, 2006 2:30 pm

I have always had luck snagging a good D on the waiver before the first game. Just wondering what you guys think of their chances for success.

Some info...

*Ted Washington-Ageless wonder
*Will Mcginest
*"Good" D draft with Wimbley and Jackson
*Andrea Davis
*Top Ten red zone D from last year
*second year of 3-4 under Romeo Crennel of past Pat's D fame

Cryogenic sleeper, maybe. There are tons of better options out there.

I think my single biggest problem with the Cleveland D is the offense's ability to keep them off the field in long stretches. I can see a number of 3 and out scenarios in Ohio this year and that's what would pull me away from ever thinking about Cleveland.

If the offense can stay healthy and improve during the off season they could be a team to think about in 2007.

I could see this being a good backup defense in a deep fantasy league. Otherwise there should be at least 2 other defenses that are more worthy of pickups at this time.

Playing in a tough division like they are certainly doesn't help their fantasy value. I don't see them putting up great numbers this year, especially with the tough schedule:

Pittsburgh x2
Cincinnati x2
Baltimore x2 (much better offense with McNair)
@ Carolina
Denver
@ SD
@ Atlanta
KC
TB

That's not the easiest schedule.....I don't like them this year at all.

they're somone you might want to consider if you play defenses based on matchup. They always seem better than they turn out. I think there was a sleeper about them last season. Beyond a matchup possibility they aren't worth it.

I would definitely pass due to the 2 reasons mentioned above....bad schedule and bad offense.

not a bad sleeper D if u are in 14plus team leaague. Thy revmped their D this year both in the offseason eand in the draft. Everyone now has one extra year of the 3-4 inder their belts

Cons- tough schedule- especially fantasy playoff time
- not that deep other than LB's
- some early season injury soncerns in their secondary
