I am hoping by taking 4 of the top WR's off the board it would FORCE a run on Wr's by other teams to pick up scraps and would allow some backs to fall.
Unless the league didnt bite and just kept drafting RB etc. Thats not a bad idea though, take one RB with say Harrison, Fitz and Smith if you can get them?
How are you defining top WRs? How do you propose to get 4 of them? If you pick WR in rounds 1-4, and you force a WR run by doing so, how good is that 4th WR gonna be, anyway?
I have four picks out of the first 20., it is an 8 team league and I traded down a draft place for an extra 3rd rounder. So I should get any four receivers I want with maybe one/two gone.
TO, Steve Smith, Chad Johnson, Harrison, Holt, Moss.
more likely to go RB and 3WRs....but that is not as much fun to talk about..
I am not trying to formulate a draft strategy here for my actual league, because I know what i am going to really do. But for the sake of arguement I wanted to talk about drafting 4 WR's with these general assumptions. The league does start 3 WR's so there is a significant demand for them.
If you want to have fun with it, grab three top-5 WRs and Gates. In an 8-team league, plenty of decent RBs will fall. In lieu of that, you could try Manning, Gates, and two top-5 WRs.
I like the idea but I did with RBs. We have 16 roster spots and 7 of them are RBs. WR pool is deeper than RB pool. I'd try your idea out...but not in my money league.
ComeAtMeBro! - PPR QB: Stafford RB: Run DMC, SRidley, KMoreno, DMurray and BBrown WR: RWhite, DThomas, and CGivins TE: Hernandez and Gates K: Graham D/ST: Jets, DisChargers and 'Phins Start QB, 2RB, 2WR, TE, Flex, K and D/ST
it can be done easily, but can also be done very dangerously. if your rb position is weak, other owners, if they got together and ganged up on u, dont have to trade u a rb. say ur rb's suck, ur season is done while theirs continue. unless ur wr's r definitely locks r success, wr/wr/wr is pretty hard. same thing applies for rb/rb/rb/rb. if others gang up and dont try u an elite wr for your rb, then ur n trouble cuz in most leagues u can only start 2 rbs and u have 2 of your first 4 picks sitting on your bench.
In 8 team league I think you can easily get away with something like that. If the other owners start panicking all the better for you. There are certainly backs worthy of starting in the 5-7th round of 8 team leagues. Really only an 8 team league strategy methinks.
