I'm pretty sure T.J. Duckett's got it locked up, as Betts is being shopped around.

I've heard from close sources they are keeping Betts. But yeah, Duckett is probably the main backup. I could see Betts coming in on 3rd and long and when they are further near their own endzone. This is all if Portis is out of course.

i dont think they would trade for duckett if they didnt plan on having him as the backup to portis. betts has looked promising in the past but wouldnt do too well as a constant starter. if your looking to pick one up duckett looks good and i dont think betts has any value in ff as of now

For right now its Betts. I expect that might change over the course of the season, but if Portis cant go week 1 (God forbid) I think Betts will "start." He has started both preseason games since TJ has been here. How many carries that ends up being is hard to say.

No way it's Duckett. Betts it the better back IMO, and he's been in Washington now and knows Gibbs' running system. Plus, apparently, Al Saunders is infatuated with the guy, even going so far as to compare him to a healthy Priest Holmes.

Yahoo experts say TJ could be this year's LJ; he seems like a good fit for that offense.

Yahoo experts ... that's an oxymoron.

No way man. Duckett is being overanalyzed and overrated. He's a glorified Touchdown Tommy Vardell. He'll do nothing but average 2.5 ypc, and steal freaking touchdowns. There is no way he could be the feature back.

According to cbs.sportsline they'll be splitting carries with Duckett getting the goal line carries.

News: Redskins coach Joe Gibbs said RB Clinton Portis (shoulder) and CB Shawn Springs (abdomen) are the only players whose availability is in serious doubt for the opener. "Most of the other guys are ready to roll," Gibbs said. Ladell Betts and T.J. Duckett figure to split carries in Week 1.

Analysis: Consider starting Betts or Duckett only in deeper leagues, or formats where you start three or more running backs. While they will split carries, it's possible Duckett gets all the goal-line work, though. So, Betts could start, but Duckett could still outscore him. It will be a crapshoot until Duckett gets his feet under him in Washington or Portis is ready to play.
