Draft strategy for 14 team league... Opine, please?

Postby cookman » Mon Sep 04, 2006 4:48 pm

So I have a draft coming up for a 14 team league. With a league that deep (all standard positions, .5 PPR) I'm thinking about going heavy on RBs early because of the positon scarcity. I usually draft for the best available player, with a slight emphasis on RBs just because of the scarcity, but I may change my strategy for this league. I've always done 12-leagues, so does anyone who has done a 14-team league have any thoughts about this?

Conversely, the other league I'm in is a 10-team league (1 PPR, 10 yds per) with 2 starting QBs. I took the opposite strategy with this league, severely downgrading RB value in favor of QBs and WRs.

Just looking for some healthy discussion about these formats, and what people's strategies would be for these 2 slightly irregular leagues.

There is some discussion of 14 team leagues as well as links to see draft results. You might get an idea of what's in store.

Do you know what pick you have or is it random before the draft room opens?

I'm in a 14 teamer as well and had the middle pick. Here was my top 10:

1. (7) S. Jackson RB
2. (22) C. Chambers WR
3. (35) W. Dunn RB
4. (50) Ro. Williams WR
5. (63) T. Bell RB
6. (78) N. Burleson WR
7. (91) J. Delhomme QB
8. (106) L. Smith TE
9. (119) D. Hall WR
10. (134) K. Winslow TE

I'm pretty happy with it, in a very deep league with a WR/TE play.

A couple years ago we started 2 QBs and it was 12 teams. I loaded up on QBs (4 quality QBs), and parlayed 2 of them into quality trades that really strengthened my team.
I hate LJ Smith!
