I think there is a way to make a decent autodraft on Yahoo. Once you know how the system works and make a good list, you can build a solid team.

But I do admit I prefer a live draft (with every manager present).

yeah, if you are going to do an autodraft, you have to make sure to prerank players, and put guys like that on the do not draft list.

Yahoo is not very quick about updating that stuff. But you know what, you get what you pay for.

since it was an autodraft, there should actually be some decent talent on the WW if you get there before other guys

Yup, there is a lot of strategy behind autodraft rankings. Still, a live draft is ALWAYS better

No reason to complain about using autodraft and using the pre-set ranking

I recently had a HORRIBLE experience with Yahoo's drafting system. It was a live draft, but I had prior commitments, so I pre-ranked. I made sure to put injured players on exclude, as well as all Ks and DEFs (to make sure I didn't get Vinatieri and Chicago in the 6th and 7th rounds). I pre-ranked 160 players, which isn't enough for the whole draft on a 14-team league w/ IDPs, but I figured it was enough to get by. It worked great for 14 rounds, then disaster struck. Here's what I got on my bench:

4 backup TEs
2 QBs not listed on team's depth chart
1 RB not listed on team's depth chart
3 "N/A" IDPs

Not to mention, Zach Hilton and 2 IDPs on my pre-ranked list went undrafted. It was ridiculous. My entire bench came off the waiver wire.

Tell me how Bradlee Van Pelt and B.J. Symons even get drafted over Jon Kitna and Kerry Collins. Brandon Miree over Vernand Morency. Mark Battaglia over Bobby Engram.

I'm seriously pissed about that draft. Hopefully my team stays healthy and I survive bye weeks.

The lesson learned here: don't autodraft.

Seriously, how stupid is the autodraft. Why not just play auto-fantasy football. It reminds me of this "trendy" video game played on the internet by some people I used to know awhile back called Progress quest. You just turn the game on and it levels your imaginary character up for you and that was the point of the game. Just sit there and watch the progress bar go up and up. That about sums up an autodraft for me. Utter stupidity.
