That was quite possibly the greatest defensive showing the Chargers have put on in awhile. Brooks had absolutely nowhere to go; the pocket collapsed so fast it was unbelievable. Halfway through the game I was more excited to watch the Chargers front seven than I was our offense. Granted, Marty's offensive gameplan lulled most of us to sleep, but it was one of the smarter, responsible gameplans he's run to date.
Rivers, albeit in only 11 passes, looked promising. His completions to LT, Parker, McCardell, and Gates (the touchdown) couldn't have been placed any better. The ball thrown at LTs feet (the blown up screen) was very responsible. The ball thrown behind LT in our own territory was a miscommunication; nothing to worry about there. All in all, I was impressed with what Rivers did -- or more of what he didn't do. No turnovers, and no quarrells with only throwing the pigskin eleven times.
That Merriman/Rivers/Kaeding for Manning deal looks sweeter and sweeter with every passing moment. I cannot wait for (a perhaps weaker team in) Tennessee in week two.
