I was lucky, though - the guys in front of me didn't lean their seats back on two of the three flights home. The other one did but it was a bigger plane.
I don't understand why people even lean those seats back, anyway. You're only gaining about 7 or 8 degrees of "lean." It's pretty much the same.
I'm 6'3'' as well and recently traveled to Germany and back. Let me say, it was not pleasant.

On top of having my knees in my chin, I had to do a ton of homework on the plane.
Leaning back definately helps for me though. For one, I can get my face further away from my knees.

And it is helpful when the person in front then leans on you.
