If ORS wanted to have his firepit on the patio. Then why couldn't he put a round form in place before they pour his concrete deck? Then he would have the ground for his fire and he could build his firepit around the opening.

Suppose we could do that, but I don't think I want it to be quite that permanent. We want to be able to decide, after the patio's paved, where the furniture goes, then the firepit. How easy is it to make a rounded form for this anyway?

You would decide the size of your hole, and then use a 1/4" Material and make your circle out of it, using stakes to provide stability. Not too bad to make. You could probably ask your concrete guy to do it, in fact.

Definitely something we could consider. Ultimately though, for our situation, I don't it'll work. We plan on extending the deck and doing some other things with the pool, etc., so I don't know where we'll end up wanting the pit to be. I'd rather it be easily taken apart and moved, then having a hole where it used to be. Or having to work around it.
