For all these newbie mistake picks, you've got to get your feet wet sometime. Think back to your first draft.....

this post made me want to use my Yahoo profile to look back at my first draft in 2001...

1- Rich Gannon (a QB in the first? well at least it was a good QB- he had 3800 yards and 27 tds, with only 9 ints)
2-Miami Defense (oh my god, was i really that stupid? anyone know if they were amazing in 2001 or something?)
3- Keyshawn Johnson (he had 1 td this year, wow was i dumb)
4- Wesley Walls (anbody remember this TE from Carolina? he was acutally solid, but 4th round?)
5- Olindo Mare (im such an idiot, the Miami DEF and K in the first 5 rounds, and im a Rams fan)
6- Terry Allen (finally an Rb, he scored 20 tds in 1996, but this was 2001!)
7- Tyrone Wheatly-(haha, does this ugy still play? he was a solid Rb back in the day actually)
8- Jeff Graham (Wr, not very good)
9- Curtis Conway- (Another WR not very good, he had 1 good year in like 1995 or something)
10- Detroit (another defense)
11- Brad Johnson (he was still around back then)
12- GB Defense (why would i have 3 defenses)
13- Brett Conway (he was a K)
14- Tony Richardson (yes, the FB)
15- Darrell Jackson (the only player on my team this year that is actually still good)

I remember thinking, why are runningbacks ranked so high when QB's score more points? That is it, I am taking the best QB first and I will be ahead of everyone....wrong, last place.

Uh, he's still around now and may end up with a decent year this year.

The most satisfying horrible pick was two years ago, when the annoying guy who always yelled at you if you took longer than 10 seconds on your pick sat there in the fourth round for five minutes as we hassled him, "Come on, Dave, let's go!" "What's the holdup, Dave?" and finally blurted out..."Joey Harrington." This after he had taken Hasselbeck in the second (not great)...the kicker was that the Seahawks and Lions had the same bye anyway that year, so Dave didn't even get a functional backup QB out of it.

But the tour de force of bad drafting came last year from Chris. I actually remember his first 9 picks--I was spellbound. A few picks were actually decent in isolation, but...

1. Collins (Whoa! Joey Harrington Award winner)
2. Holt (All right, not bad)
3. Brady (O...K. This isn't a 2 QB league, dude)
4. Gonzalez (Right round, but don't you need a--never mind)
5. Vanderjagt (uh...)
6. Driver (You do realize you need a...)
7. Dunn (There it is. BTW, how'd we let him fall this far?)
8. Reed (That's right--a #2 kicker before a #2 RB)
9. Duckett
And no more RBs after that. I think he might've even started an empty spot or two when the Falcons went on bye.

He's not playing this year.

12 team, redraft league. Dude took Jake Delhomme in the first round, 7th overall!! That was last year!! That has to take the cake in "real" leagues anyways.

I saw Brady 5th overall this year, before Peyton.

Same guy that picked Coco Crisp #7 overall in our Baseball league.

Did I mention a guy took not one but TWO fullbacks this year in our work money league. .. both mid rounders too- Jeremi Johnson and Lorenzo Neal :-o

Needless to say we got quite a few laughs off of that.
