Matt Millen's muffs: Lions GM puts the mock in draft
April 22, 2008

Clifton Brown
Sporting News

Here's a suggestion for how Lions general manager Matt Millen should spend draft weekend: Take a vacation. Find a tropical location, a martini and a television, then kick back and watch while coach Rod Marinelli and the Lions' scouts decide which players to choose. And be thankful you still have a job.

When Lions fans say "mock draft," they're not talking about predictions. They're talking about their reaction to what Millen actually did.

Take a close look at the Lions' first-round draft picks since 2001, when Millen was hired, and you will see a pattern. The team picking after Detroit usually did better -- sometimes a lot better. Compare the players the Lions could have taken with the ones they got. Then again, if you're a Lions fan, maybe you shouldn't.

6 of their last 8 picks were in the top 10 and 3 of them were top 3 picks. Millen actually took a team with a winning record, 9-7 in 2000, and turned them into a 2-14 team the following season. And with all those top picks he still hasn't been able to produce a team with more than 7 wins in a season. 8-o

I don't know if there has been a more incompetent GM in sports...ever. %-6

Must be nice to continue to suck at your job year after year yet still take home a fat paycheck and know your job is safe. :-b

Lol ... yeah if I could be totally useless and get away with it I would. It kinda makes you wonder if even really does work. Maybe he is the George Costanza of the Lions instead of the Yankees, Ill bet he even has the sleeping desk.

Isiah at least got kicked out of New York recently after only about 2-3 years of damage...Millen has been keeping it real since, what, 2001?
