He hadn't done spit in the Niners first two games, but seven catches for 87 yards and a TD last week got my attention, especially now that Davis is going to be out a month or more.

I was wondering what y'all thought. Some "Big Name" Tight Ends have byes during that month (Crumpler, Shockey, etc.) and when healthy EJ has produced. Opinions?

He would've been putting up great TE numbers if the 49ers had not selected Vernon Davis. Last time he was healthy he caught 80+ receptions. In a better offense his receptions should go down, but his yards and TDs will go up while Vernon Davis is out. Eric Johnson could be a huge bye week pickup during VD's absence.

as a niners fan the health of EJ is a scary thing to think about. Over the last 3 years hes only played one of those seasons.

He got most of those yards in pure junk time, the Eagles were playin super soft & had back ups in.

The Niners are better this year & wont be getting blown out that much that he gets these garbage yards & TDs.

Johnson didn't see one pass targeted to him the first 2 weeks. As soon as Davis went down he was targeted 11 times, he caught 7 of those passes and twice he was targeted in the red zone.

if your TE has a bye week I would pick him up. If you have an underperformer like mcmichael or something, I'd pick him up to weather the storm.

Seems that everyone forgets that Johnson was a top 10 TE couple years ago. Then he broke his foot and missed all last year. With an improved Alex Smith I expect to see some nice numbers from him.
