Congratulations, Omaha! That must have been lots of fun to watch. How happy and proud was he after he got it?
Beaming. Ear to ear smile. I don't know where he got this idea, but he wants to get a display case for all of his belts, which is funny because the only one we'd be able to put in there is the white, since he'd have to wear the yellow. We got to watch some of the other promotions as well, including two older kids that obtained their black belts. That was pretty cool to watch and he's pretty excited to keep working towards that. Of course, he's still young so he doesn't quite understand that it'll be a while before that day comes.
There's another kid in his class, I'd have to say about 10-years old, who is extremely talented. His kicks and balance are unbelievable. He was up for promotion too, and would have easily gotten it, but there was a miscommunication and his dad didn't get the paperwork in on time. His mother brought him, but was asked for the testing fee (when it's all added up, comes out to about $85) and she didn't want to pay it. The parents aren't together and she said this was his dad's deal and he was paying for it. They left so he will remain a white belt till the next testing, about another 6 months. I almost stepped forward to pay for it myself. Kind of sad, but he'll get his chance.
All in all, a very fun experience. The comaraderie between the kids is amazing. The older ones and upper belts help out the younger ones and are so supportive and modest it's touching. His practice session days change now and he'll be put in a class with mixed belt classes, yellow, green and a few purple, so that should be interesting.
Highly recommend Martial Arts to all parents.
