Leftwich: top 5 QB by the seasons end?

Postby SkinSFan22 » Mon Oct 16, 2006 2:51 pm

Am I just crazy or losing my mind? Please respond.

Currently, Leftwich has accumulated 1034 yards, an above 60 completion percentage, 7 td's, QB rating of 82, and he has also ran for 2 td's. He is averaging 17.4 FF points per game. Also, he looks like a lock to throw for 3,000+ yards for the first time in his career.
He also has many offensive weapons: Taylor, Drew, Williams, Jones, and Wilford.
With the Jags' upcoming schedule and Leftwich's talented supporting cast, I see no reason why Leftwich cannot maintain top 5 QB status. Here it is:

week 7 at Houston Texans- worst defense in the NFL

week 8 at Philadelphia Eagles- banged-up secondary

week 9 vs. Tennessee Titans- terrible defense, especially run, which will set up the pass

week 10 vs. Houston Texans- ^^^

week 11 vs. New York Giants- one of the worst pass defenses out there

week 12 at Buffalo Bills- non-experienced secondary with Whitner and Simpson, CB's not doing too well either

week 13 at Miami Dolphins- bad defense

week 14 vs. Indianapolis Colts- defense surprisingly worse than last year

week 15 at Tennessee Titans- ^^^

week 16 vs. New England Patriots- poor secondary

week 17 at Kansas City Chiefs- bad defense

No, I'm neither. I'm just stating the Jags potentially easy schedule (pass-wise that is).

um, eagles secondary is not "banged up" anymore, all of their starters are back, and their nicekl corner should be back soon.

Horn scored those TD's on michael lewis (not that it matters THAT much, its still the secondary).

But it does bear repeating that owens and glenn didn't do much against sheppard and brown.

I see five games that are one the easy side for him.

A few where he should be adequate (like the eagles).

But poor secondary or not, I don't see them doing that much through the air on the pats.

woa, I didn't even see the top 5 moniker. NO WAY.

Because he has a lot of ground to make up on the leader sif its top 5 overall.

If you meant rest of the way, I think there may be an outside shot, but realistically no. you have grossman, mcnabb, bulger playing at very high levels, and yea, schedule counts, but so does skill level and the team. I think brees will outproduce him. And we have tame (by his standards) performance out of manning, and I bet they open it up. I wonder how much they are laying low to be honest. Gotta like what bulger is doing, and carson palmer can turn it around quick with that team.

And while I am decidedly NOT a fan of Eli, he is playing pretty well as well. Their schedule is freaking hard as nails, but that team is good too. And with the way thei secondary is, they could get into shootouts as well.

Top 5 is a tough nut to crack fro byron.

I think he can... be top 5. Not sure if he will. I agree the scedule is favorable.

Plus, as of now in my league, he is only 13 points out of the top 5, in 9th.

What's further, of the 8 people in front of him, ONLY 2 HAVE HAD THIER BYE.

I'm buying this one. ;-D

that's a good point. In yahoo right now, if you change it to pts per game, he's #6 right now. With that schedule, I think it's possible he could be in the top 5.

I think he has a shot and will be strong down the stretch with that schedule. I know Warpigs was promtoing him as a guy to go trade for based on his schedule, the return of Matt Jones and the dominating defense they have will get him the ball alot.
