Was a rook in 96 in a 16 team TD league with a live draft (where everyone actually gets together physically and drafts teams). I had a fantasy mag and that was about it, I traded some draft picks to choose Favre no. 1 overall also landed Terry Glenn who had a phenominal rookie year. Made a few lucky trades, 1 for Ki-Jana Carter of all guys (scored like nine times in final 8 games that year). Rode those guys all the way to the trophy. Still in the league, now a performance league, and we still draft live and in person. Haven't won it since, but have made the playoffs every year.
Started a 12 dynasty league in 99 that involves a salary cap, contract years, and a live in person auction. We had a nice group of rooks and vets and it was the first auction any of us had ever participated in. I had a great strategy and clearly had the best team out of the auction. In the league's 4 years of existance I've won the point chapionship twice, made the final 3 times, but only won it all once (last year with probably the worst team out of the one's that made the final). In any case after year one our owners got pretty savvy pretty fast at the auction. We still have 8 out of our original 12 owners 5 years later!
These are the only two leagues that I participate in, both with a $50 entry fee. 2 is all I want, I like to know who's on what teams, and who is on my teams, and the real drafts allow me to actually get to know who I'm playing each year, making for much better smack and taunting at the draft/auction and during the season.

You pick Warner first overall? Are you serious?

hey free bagel,,,u had peyton and u had harrison and u traded marvin and still won the league..,,,lollloollloll,,i can't stop laughing,,u want to join my league next year too??!!!,,lol, lol,a manning/harrison combo is probably the most coveted combo u would hope for,,and u traded it away,,,and u won??!! My rookie year was 1999. I started 0-6 and finished 5-6-2. I had Marshall Faulk and picked up a guy named Kurt Warner when Vinny went down in like week 1 or 2. By the end of the year I was steam rolling people but my 0-6 start kept me out of the playoffs.
Last year I was a rookie to the auction league and finished 12-4 and won the championship. I got out of that league because of issues with some people not paying their lentry fees and transaction fees timely.
I'm not in an auction league this year but I'm in 2 money leagues. I'm 3-2 in a 10 team league and 3rd in points scored, and 4-1 in an 8 team league and 2nd in points scored. I was definitely the best prepared this year, thanks in part to this site.

Well for starters, it was my first year playing fantasy (hence the thread title), and I wasn't too serious about it. Next, it was about four years ago (I said Faulk's breakout year, that should've clued you in). Given that Faulk scored 26 TD's that year, giving up Harrison for him was more than worth it. Through his last 4 games of the year (fantasy playoffs), I think he AVERAGED almost 200 total yards and 3 td's PER GAME.
That being said, I have Harrison this year as well, and I'd gladly trade him for priest without even thinking twice. If you'd be willing to give up priest for him, then wont' you please join MY money league?
Last year was my rookie year. This time last year I was 1-4 and very frustrated. By week 6 though, my team really started to come together. I had players like Aaron Brooks, LT2, Travis Henry and Peerless Price take me far. With a mid-season trade of DeShaun Foster and Key Johnson for Clinton Portis I went all the way to the Super Bowl with a 10-5 record. I ended up winning the league by the end of the Monday night game in week 16. If Hines Ward would've got 7 yards more I would've lost. Talk about a game of inches...Phew!
This year, my sophmore year, I'm 4-1 with a pretty good team. I'm a new member in a league that's been playing together for a long time. All these players are calling me rookie, not knowing that I've played before. I've been playing dumb with some of them. Letting them think they can sneak an uneven trade my way and then countering it with something that's more to my liking. The whole time they think I don't know what I'm doing. This is great. I love the competition and the money I'm going to win when the season's over.
Oh yeah, this year I'm also in 2 other leagues that I got involved in through this site. One is a no money league on yahoo. I'm 4-1 and feeling pretty good about my team.
The other is on MyFantasyLeague.com. In that league I am 0-5. I don't really feel like talking about that one.

Wow...did you even read his post?

I'm a rookie in two leagues. In my money league I'm 5-0 and in the regular league I'm 3-2. Fantasy football isn't really that hard. Not as hard as baseball. Unlike baseball, great players just don't usually come out of nowhere midseason--Harden, Webb, Willis, etc. In football most of the winners will emerge based on the quality of their draft and the health of their 1st two picks.
Pick up a good fantasy FB mag, keep an eye on matchups, injuries and get acquainted with the backups for key players and it's fun and not too hard...Of course using this site helps.

I was FF rookie in 88....wow wee Im gettin old.......we actually started a league then...8 teams.....now we have 12 teams, and some very seasoned vets.......rookies DO NOT walk into the PFFL and make much of a first year impression.....all though now it is easier with the net and all......I remember when I first started playing, I couldn't wait for the street and smiths to come out......used to love that magazine......
