It is so annoying when somebody in the league gives up, especially if you pay to be in a league. Soem guy in my league gave up up just because he has a 2-4 record. So, what play the damn game.

I hear ya.

One year we had a guy quit the day after the draft, because he didn't like the number he drew.

Idiot.

I know it's one of the hazards of playing in a free public league at Yahoo, having to deal with inactive managers, but I find it annoying when people use it for mock draft purposes and never participate during the season.

It is very annoying. And Surprising. Usually people have money leagues, to keep the interest throughout the season. I can feel your pain. Now you no for the future to count that owner out.

The best way to combat this is to have an active commish and give weekly payouts. I got the idea from the cafe a while back for my big money league, and it has worked wonders.

No matter how high the buyin, it never seemed to fail that once someone thought they were out of it, they would throw in the towel. Once we started a small weekly payout for top weekly score (2% payout per week), I am able to keep people around.

Once people start complaining and thinking about quiting, I let them know that all they have to do is put up nice points one or two weeks to get some money back.

I can not do any free public leagues anymore because the majority of them ending up falling apart or just not having the right level of competition.
