My Team Advice appreciated

Postby ReelMarlin » Tue Aug 27, 2002 6:25 pm

Hey just finished my yahoo draft:
QB's: Brett Favre Vinny Testeverde
RB's: Marshall Faulk Corey Dillon James Stewart
WR's: Chris Chambers Mushin Muhammad Derrick Mason and Antonio Freeman
TE's: Wesley Walls Anthony Becht
K's: Jeff Wilkins Bill Gramatica
DEF's: Green Bay and Philly
My question is what to do about that 4th receiver spot. Not a starting position but guys like Az Zahir Hakim are still available any advice. Should i just wait until the season starts and see Antonio's role in Philly or make a preseason move. Any other advice is also welcome thanks!

Your team looks pretty good. Do you start two wide receivers or three? If you only start two, it won't much matter anyway. I'd just hang onto Freeman and see how things turn out, unless there's somebody really good out there. I'm not that high on Hakim because he doesn't run the short and medium routes very well and Detroit isn't going to have the explosiveness of the Rams' offense. Of course, I'd advise you to drop at least your backup kicker to pick up another receiver. Also, backup defense and even, to a certain extent, backup tight ends aren't very important. Better to load up on the WRs and RBs. You can always make waiver moves during the season for the bye week on your kicker, etc.

James Stewart always underperforms; he's a bye-week guy at best
Muhsin Muhammad is a weak #1 on a pathetic offense; good trade bait
Wesley Walls should be dropped or traded; he has little value
ACL-Boy (Gramatica) should be dropped or traded; Wilkens is my #1 choice for kicker (dome + high-powered offense)

You are going to need another RB or two in case your starters get injured. I HIGHLY suggest you at least get Trung Canidate for peace-of-mind with Faulk. If you don't and Faulk goes down, you'll be in trouble.

I agree about picking up Canidate. I didn't draft well last year and ended up with him as the best starter I could find on waivers or through trades. The weeks he started for the injured Faulk were about the only weeks I won head-to-head.
