Is the Superbowl loser curse as real as Madden now???

Postby deacon » Mon Oct 23, 2006 9:59 am

We all know the Madden cover curse (see S. Alexander) but are we looking at a more powerful curse in the Superbowl Loser.

Let's look at the facts: The Losers

'06 - Seattle - Now looks to be suffering double whammy of having star RB in midst of Madden curse and QB goes down with knee injury Sunday. (early reports are not good)

'05 - Philly - The whole TO fiasco. QB suffers season ending injury

'04 - Carolina - Following year S. Smith breaks leg, all RBs on team suffer some injury at some point in season. Ended season with Nick Goings and Brad Hoover as only backs healthy enough to play final game.

'03- Oakland - no explaination needed

'02 - St. Louis - Went 7-9 missed playoff

'01 - Giants - Went 7-9 missed playoffs

'00 - Titans - This is the last time a Superbowl losing team has had a winning record the following year. Titans went 13-3 and lost in divisonal playoff game.

Looks like a pretty consistent trend here! This adds more emphasis on winning the Superbowl me thinks!

Last I checked Seattle was 4-2.

I don't care if you don't have your QB or RB, check out this schedule of upcoming games for Seattle:

2 games vs 49ers. A game vs Oakland another vs Arizona. A game vs Green Bay.... Another @ Kansas City.... Most if not every one of those games the Seattle Seahawks will probably be the favorite. The absolute worst I see for Seattle is going 9-7. And that's if Alexander and Hasselbeck miss the rest of the season.

Seattle's biggest worry right now should be the Rams. They meet again in week 10 and if Hass and SA are still out by then, I don't think the Seahawks can win even at home. And once the Seahawks lose their tiebreaker over the Rams, it's gonna be tough going for Seattle to win their division. Because St Louis's schedule is just as easy as Seattle's.

If Hasselbeck is down for any extended amount of time, I'm gonna go ahead and guarantee that Seattle misses the playoffs this year.

Furthermore, if Hasselbeck is not back by week 11, I'm gonna go ahead and guarantee you that SF will beat Seattle in SF in week 11.

Anybody wanna make a friendly wager on paypal, call me in week 10.

PS Don't forget the Campbell's Chunky soup curse. First McNabb, and now Hasselbeck.

I've seen 2-4 weeks and 4+ weeks. If it's the former, I'd consider that good.

Holmgren has yet to announce it.

I'm not so sure you can call that a curse just yet. McNabb was doing Chunky commercials longer than just last year and Hass getting hurt is just a coincidence so far. Can't really call it a curse until it takes out 2 or 3 more players IMO.

With Seattle's piece of cake schedule handed to them, they can make the playoffs by accident.

If they don't they really stink
QB's E. MANNING / KITNA / CUTLER
RBs R BROWN / WESTBROOK (R BUSH / MCGAHEE / L BETTS / D WILLIAMS )
WRs ROY WILLIAMS / T OWENS / A JOHNSON / BERRIAN
TE WITTEN / WATSON
