Is this fantasy strategy "unsportsmanlike"?

If it makes you feel better then don't grab the kickers. Also, you've gotta play Tiki. Don't overcoach.

This seems like a legit tactic. Shouldn't have any problem defending the move, but the fact that it's a good friend makes things a little sticky.

If one of my friends pulled a move like this (in the situation you describe), I'd probably have a pretty good laugh, tease him about being an insecure wussy, and explain that he's going to have to buy me a beer to redeem himself.

Don't worry.

-------------------------

Now for a slight thread-jack. Looking at this from another angle.

I was looking at the way my Yahoo league is set up. There is no limit or penalty for the number of moves a team makes, and once a player is cut from your roster he sits on the WW for 48hrs before becoming a FA again. It looks like this system is open to all sorts of abuse (e.g., If someone were to go in on Fri/Sat and pickup and release a bunch of players just so no one else can have them)

Has anyone had problems with this in their league?

How would you address it?

That "slight" thread-jack was unsportsmanlike.

A couple things.

One, this is goes against the Yahoo (whereever they are) codes of conduct if you want to use those as your guide.

Two, I'd call this a legit strategy.

Three, if you want to if it's sportsmanlike? No, it isn't. The sportsmanlike way to do it is to put in Tiki and roll with your team.

The moral dilemma part of this whole thing is overrated. I'll say it again - dude has had all week long to pick up one of these kickers. If he hasn't done so by now, he must not want to win that bad.

Slow down. I didn't way it was cheating, in fact, quite the opposite. I simply said that, for me, it would feel like cheating, which is something else entirely. In fact, I would argue that it is this exact feeling that promped the original poster to post his dilema in the first place.

To the OP, if it's a good friend, I would just tell him to pick up a kicker before you grab both. FF is only a game after all.

If it's a Yahoo league league it's against the rules you agreed to abide by by signing up for their league:

No owner will make any roster moves (including waiver claims, trade proposals, etc.) whose sole purpose is to hamper the play of other owners.

yea, but you still are allowed to pick up players. I think that rule means using the process of the system to put everyone on waivers for example.

I don't think it means that you can't make moves that give you the best chance to win.

I isn't written well, and the menaing is up to debate. But that's how I interpret that.

Answer to my own question

Postby mjhokie » Mon Oct 23, 2006 1:14 pm

I looked into the Yahoo "Fair Play and Sportsmanship" -

"No owner will make any roster moves (including waiver claims, trade proposals, etc.) whose sole purpose is to hamper the play of other owners"

I guess that answers my question, though I was leaning that way anyway. Thanks for all the comments. I thought this was a pretty good discussion topic, considering how it pulled me both ways.

Think I'll actually tell my pal to pick someone up. Better to win that way.

Thanks to everyone again.

Good luck and enjoy.

I'd just let it go, it doesn't sound like he's gonna pick anyone up anyways. Otherwise you're just asking to lose.
