Next year is pretty much in the toilet too as they have to get essentially a rookie who's had no playing time up to speed. That means that they are pretty much out of contention next year as well.
They are not headed down by any means. By the looks of them in the first 3 weeks (1-2, losing 2 games at home and narrowly squeaking by Detroit) I figured they would be looking at getting creamed week after week and probably go 4-12 or something sad.
With their play in recent weeks I think 8-8 is becoming more and more a reality. Someone else posted their schedule, looking at it I do not agree it’s a cake walk. But there are 6 very winnable games there. Throw in a couple more tough games won at home plus Brett's possible last goodbye @ Chicago in week 17. (In a game I fully expect Green Bay to win, playing a Chicago team that has everything wrapped up.)
The more I think about it I really like Green Bay's shot to win more than many a game down the stretch here. Let next year handle itself.
A totally healthy Woodson is a huge difference for that defense as well. The biggest weakness I see is the O-Line and I see no reason not to believe they will only get better.
Sure they will most likely miss the playoffs. But missing the playoffs at 8-8 feels a heck of alot better than 4-12.
Headed in the right direction? Yes.
At the destination? Far from.
