How much fill dirt you suppose you'll be displacing? You going to have a new pond and a new hill for sledding on in the winter?

Yeah, a lot of dirt, but I think there's plenty of places to put it, namely, just on the other side of the creek drop off (pond has higher elevation than creek). Also, as we get more brush cleared out we're getting better ideas of how it will need to be dug. On the east side the hill from the field slopes down already, then raises back up to the relatively level surface we'll be digging from. Basically (hard to put into words what I'm trying to illustrate), the east side will need very little dug out and will already have some very nice natural structure. However, that is also the side, though more north, that the swimming area will be, so that will have to be excavated at least to the point so there aren't any stumps left.

I don't know how much I've elaborated since it's been a while since I've given update, but you're going to be able to see the pond from the house. You'll have a pretty extensive treeline separating you, but you'll definitely be able to see the water. The other weekend I was working with the skidloader (bobcat) pushing trees together and this one, probably 6" diameter tree comes straight through the front of the skidloader. I lean to my right and it goes straight through the back. Nearly took my head off. Need to be more careful I think.

That's awesome. I live next to a pond so I see the water from all the west- and south-facing windows. Plus there's a fountain, so it's like having a waterfall right outside.

Oh my... was/is there a grate encompassing the cabin?? That'd be quite the strange way to check out. Gotta be careful using heavy machinery, even if it's just a bobcat. I've almost flipped one several times.

so how big is this pond gonna be? you're talking about having a swimming area seperate from where you'll be fishing, just seems like you'd need a pretty big pond.

There's cage on the sides, but the front and back are open. Yeah, I have to take it a little slower. I nearly flipped it the other day trying to back up the muddy bank (trying to use the bucket to push :-° ). It just slid and almost went into the creek. Phew.

It'll be about an acre I believe, when it's done. It'll basically be a triangle with a slight inlet for a campsite. I thought I had a drawing of the plan, but I think it's on the computer at work. Here's the satellite view of the area. That area at the top right of the red line will be where the slight inlet will be. Basically just a slight half circle of land going out into the water. And on that right, or east, side of that will be the shallow swimming area that will get gradually deeper down the SE shore. I plan on putting a dock out there to jump off of. So the entire rest of the pond will be devoted to fishing. Should be plenty of room for some trophy bass. :-D

Ya know my spring break is in about 2 and a half weeks, so theoretically if you quit your job, worked all night and day and drank a lot of coffee you could finish it and stock it by then, and we could give it a test run. ;-) :-b

Consider it done. Second farm on the left off the highway. Watch out for the rottweiler. Go past the barn and garage, down the drive between the fields, turn right, cross the creek (need 4WD), and turn right at the top of the hill. We'll be there reeling them in. :-D

I was really hoping to get it dug before spring so it could fill during that time. Still hopeful of this. If it's got enough water, we could stock the bluegill and minnows in May. They'd spawn during the summer so we could go ahead and stock the bass in September. That's best case scenario. And those bass won't be a size you'll want to show off right away. :-D

Awesome, your gonna get fired because of this, I can tell, just like those guys who play World of Warcraft like every waking hour of their life...except this is so much more cool. :-b

How about an update? :-D We're ready to dig. Officially this time. :-° We've almost completely cleared all trees and brush in the dig site and we're ready for a bulldozer to come in and rip out the stumps and start the dig. Here's some progress pictures:
